Gang Assault By Six Maori Youths
WAIROA, April 6. Six Maori juveniles today f'aeecl charges in. tlie Magistrate's Court, of common assault and also of being found by night in enclosed premises witliout lawful excuse. In proseeuting, the police claimed that defendants, who were between the ages of 13 and 17, with handkercMefs over their faees and with shirt and coat collars turned up, crept through long grass to wrest a girl from a man who was taking her home. A flght ensued during which the girl had been pushed and pulled about. Considerable indeeent language had been used. On the seeond charge the police stated the boys were believed by the police to be concerned in a number of Peeping Tom cases which had been very prevalent in Wairoa for some tinie past. When questioned they admitted going to other homes in addition to those to which charged. Remarking that it was a serious business and if oue. lad appeared in open court he would not be dealt with so kindly, the Magistrate, Mr. L. G-. H. Sinclair, placed the olfenders under supervision for periods ranging from six months to two years.
