A Russian regiment attaofeed a Persian Army .ppst in north-eastern .Azerbaijan a few days ago in whai a reliable military source today described as an "iimportant battle," says the Associated Press' Teheran correspondent. # r The Soviet troops, suppprte'd by tanks and armoured' cars, ' erns'sed the border in the Ardebil distrjct,. near the Caspian Sea, on Marpfl 3.1 and opened fire on the outpost at Ganliboulaq. The battajion pf Persians replied and the ensuing'fighting lasted untihthe next day. Two Persians were killed and a "consideraible number" wounded.* The number of Russian casualties is unknown. The incident is regarded as the most serious attack since the Azerbaijan fighting two years ago.
