Senate debate on the Bill to contmue the European recovery plan for anotheyear. Senator Taft Said: U1 have every sympathy for the British position, bait seems to me that a little slowing-up of the recovery process is not going to damage the British people to any ex tent. He complained that Britain 's social and other plans were being improperly sustained by American aid, and said if aid to Britain was reduced "our manufacturers wiii have a little lohger time to meet British competition. "We cannot have the highest liviftg standards in the world and then hope t compete with Britain and other coun tries with lower standards."
