Pipe Band's New Uniforms Arriving
The first consighment of *unl-' forms and equipment for the Roro-' whenua Scottish Society's pipe band has arrived in New Zealand. i This was reported to the annuai j meeting last night, when the- seere- ' tary, Mr. J. A. Goodwin, stated thati he' had received notice that the goods had landed and a request- lo forward the invOiceS to the proper authorities sO that customs 'duty could be assessed. \ He unders ood, however, that thej duty" could be waived or refunded if the propei* application was ma'de, coinniented Mr. Goodwin. .. .. . v The only way in which the Society could get the money back was to apply to the Government fot a grant for a simiiar amouht,? remarked Mr. E. G. Hewitt. .He" aske'd the m'eeting's 0 permission to make personal application for a grant. A d'ifflculty lay in the. fact that the goods were not arriving all at once, replied' Mr. GoOdwin. j He considered that it would1 not be right tb make more than one application for a grant. | It was decided to give Mr. HCWitt the autnority to make application for a grant to the limit of whai the Government was prepared to give. • The matter of the new ehanters for the band was discussed, Mr. w. SWan asking the incoming committee to give them first priority, A sUbscrip.ion list was opShed in the 'meeting and a gerieroUS offer was received from Mr, w. Urquhart for, 'the -donation of one chanter, Other 1 donations were Mr, j. r. Macfarlane £1 ls and Mr. F. Wcorett £1.
