The last report of the starter'.i pistol having died away, athlete: can hang up their shoes and prepare for a season of winter sports The final flutter for track aird fleid enmusiasts last Monday nigh: produced competition of a high order, the events witnessed resulting in many near "photo" finishes. Throughout ihe season an effort has been made to bring before you per medium of this column the individual performances of our local athletes at evening meetings. A full review of their successes at open meetings in and around the district was contained in our last sports column and made impressive reading to those interested. Competitors generally are to be commended for their performances throughout the season and the public, too, must accept their whare of this appreciation, as it is felt thac their attendance gave just that extra moral support whicn, I am sure, induced the competitors to give of their best on all occasions. At the close of our final meeting I overheard the following question: "What are you going to do now that the meetings are finished?" I should say that this question would be superfluous to any sports-mind-ed individual, as the answer would obvious'y be, "I'm following such and such a team." And so there is no rest for the lover of sport or his supporter. We must have our mental relaxation and what better way of gaining this than by following the great outdoors and the pleasure it provides. Winter Sports Now Our athletes will be absorbed in many spheres of ivinter sport and we trust that as this season reaches its climax they will again be looking forward to a further successful season in the athletic world. To the many athletes I came to« know during the season I extend my congratulations on their performances and admiration of their, physical fitness, which has been 1 maintaine'd throughout a strenuous period of competition. Presentation Of Troohies An end-of -season social evening will be held in St. Mary's Hall on Saturday, April 9, when ■ the tro-i phies won during the season will: be presented to club members. Tickets are obtainable from Chainey Bros. ! - I
