Paraparaumu Institute Holds Annual Meeting

("Chronicle" Correspondent)

Tne Paraparaumu Women's Institute held its annual meeting in the Anglican Hall, Paraparaumu, recently, when Mrs. G. Hadfield occupied the chair. An apology for unavoidabie absence was received from Mrs. D. Grant, who had agreed to preside over the meeting. The business was proceeded with and the secretary, Mrs. R. Caterer, presented the annual report. Mrs. Hadfield, commenting on the report, thanked one and all for their cooperation _ and help, thus making the presentation of such an excellent report possible. Miss Cromb, the treasurer, gave the financial statement, which revealed that the institute was oh a very sound financiar*basis. The library report was presented by Mrs. Weston and showed that the library had grown in popularity and that both members and the general public were well catered for in good rea'ding matter. Mrs. Weston also reported on the parcels for Britain effort. Reference was made to the formation of a new branch at Raumati South, and good wishes were extended for its success. Tnere was no election of oflicers, Mrs. G. Hadfield the retiring president being presented with a box of flowers, and warm thanks were. offered her^for her work for the branch throughout the. year.. 'Mrs.Eggers accepted the office of president for the coming year. She was given an enthusiastic welcome, and was also the recipient of a box of flowers. Miss Cromb, the retiring treasurer, was thanked for her capable handling of the financial affairs of the branch and presented with a gift of flowers. Mrs. Hadfield, prior to concluding the meeting, again thanked one and all for their good work throughout the year and expressed the wish that thev coming year would be a happy orie. Oflicers for the coming year are: — President: Mrs. Eggers secretary: Mrs. R. Caterer; treasurer: Mrs. C. Osborne; committee: Mesdames S. -Moult, G. Watson, C. A. Delahunty, N. F. Hornsby, T. Donovan, C. Weston and I. Hickson, and Miss R. Clarkson. Winners . of the competitions were: — Fancywork:. Mesdames Donovan and N. Fox. Formed The Raumati South ladies have formed an institute which had 30 financial members at its inaugural meeting and already show signs of being a very progressive branch. Meetings have been fixed for the fourth Tuesday in the month, and they are held in the Church Hall at Raumati South.
