Otaki River Protection Association Meets
At a meeting of the Otaki River . Protection Association, held recent-1 •ly, the secretary, Mr. W. J\ Gallo-', way, reported on cnrrespondence ' received from the Manawatu, ■Catchment Board. Y Matters dealt with concerned the commencement of tne eomprehensiVe protection work to be undertaken above the Otaki Bridge and the board's report regarding the association's views that erosion was ■aggravated by Gmber fe ling in the [upper reaches. | With regard to the former, the ■assDciation will be advised wnen it lis proposed to starl the work. A ;full meeting wi'l then be held and the board's chief engineer will be ^nvited to attend. i A communication from the board ! regarding the second matter was to 'the effect that tne Soil Conse'rvator, Mr. A. F. Greenall, of the Ministry of Works, Palmerston North, had expressed the opinion that timber felhng and milling operations in the catchment area were not considered ,to be accelerating erosiop. . Mr. Greenall,' however, recommended that a detailgd surr : vey be made in view of the past 1 and proposed expenditure of aubstantial moneys in the Otaki catchment area. The board advised having requested the conservatoh to carry out this survey. ,
