National Candidate Chosen For Gisborne

GISBORNE, March 29. As tbe result of a postal ballot in which over 80 per cent. of the members voted, Mr. H. Dudfield has been seleeted as National Party candidate for the Gisborne seat at the General Eleetions. The announcement was made at a party meeting at the Opera House tonight. Mr. Dudfield, who' is 36, was born in Gisborne and educated in Gisborne, Wellington and Canterbury University College. He served overseas "with the 2nd N.Z.E.F., leaving in 1940. He was eommissioned in the field and rose to the rank of captain, returning in 1945 after serviee in North Africa, Italy and the Pacific. He is employed by the Health Department as Inspector of Health on the East Goast. He is depnty chairman of the Waiapu Hospital Board and a member of the Waiapu County Council and Tokomaru Harbour Board. He is active in debating and many branches of sport.
