Future Welfare Of Scouts Considered

While the response of parents and others interested to an invitation to attend a meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the future welfare of the scouts and cubs was disappointing, there was a satisfaci tory attendance, and those present ' praised the work of the officers wno jare continuing to keep the scout imovement alive in Otaki. I The meeting was presided over by | Mr. F. Rule, who welcomed parents, and briefly outlined the objects of the meeting, stating that there was a fairly strong feeling in favour of transferring tne control of the Otaki Group from. the Wellington to the Horowhenua district. Mr. Rule explained that the recent promotion to Levin of a district commissioner was t'imely, and pointed out that the placing of the group under the supervision of sucn an officer would be a definite advantage. - i Mr. L. Moss supported Mr. Rule, and agreed that the closer contact and the valuable advice that was sure to be coming from the Rover Scouts in the Horowhenua district, j would be .a 'desirable asset. Following further discussion, in | which most of those present took part, it was resolved that steps be itaken to bring about the transfer. Matters in connection with the movement generally were then freely discussed. It was reported ,.that there was still quite a deal of activity among the keener members, who, despite the loss of their training quarters, were arranging hikes and camping excursions as a means of maintaining contact and enthus'asm meanwhile. It wa* further reported that the campaign to raise funds for a hall, which had taken a back seat during the recent carnival activity, would again receive prominence at an early date. A satisfactory sum was reported to be in hand. A message of thanks from the Otaki Marching Sub-Association, Dr assistance given at the marching championships, was received. A further meeting is to be called when a reply from headquarters is forthcoming.
