Girl Marchers' Gallant And Sporting Efftort

The hardiest of sportsmen had to hand it " to the girls' marching teams which struggled nianfully through driving rain at Athletic Parx on Saturday, before the orsranisers saw the futility of continuance and cancelled the 1949 New Zealand marehing championships. Only 18 of the 34 teams entered marched, but they gave marvellous performances in spite of 58 m.p.h. gusts of wind and drenching rain. The girls showed wontierfui sportsmanship and did their best under the appalling conditions. It was a great pity that the weather was against them because the cost of the trip was heavy for visiting teams besides which the event was much looked forward to. Among the olhers who marched on Saturday, three hearty bravos are due the Caledonians of Levin.
