Levin Corso Work Praised By Dominion Organiser

.. "Your committee is to be congratulated on the quaiity of the clothes and other goods you sent us and the regular support which you give year after year." This statement was made to members of the Levin Corso Committee reeently by Mr/R. Thurlow Thompson, tne Corso Dominion. organiser, when . addressirig the committee meeting. , Mr. Thompson went on to describe the handling of supplies at Corso headquarters and stressed the value of maintaining a high standard of goods, .as Corso had to meet considerable costs from its funds for ,the transportation of goods to Europe and Asia. Under these circumstances it was not ecohomic to send goods. that would not give a reasonable amount of wear., ; Speaking of the position in China, Mr._ Thompson said that, deopite- the changing situation, Corso workers were remaining and so far as could be judged there was every likelihood , that Corso's nonpartisan work o'f goodwill to the Chinese people would be maintained. Particular mention was made of the work of Corso personnel serving with Rewi Alley at Sandan and with the mission and other nospitals in China. The work of Madame Sun Yat-Sen in assisting the under-privileged children of Shanghai made a particular appeal with its plan for reducing the illiteracy in China, by the "Little Teachers" scheme. Corso planned to continue its " work of relieving distress wherever it could. Supplies would be sent to Greece and Crete, places that had a special significance for New Zealanders, and to China, where the need was intense and Corso distribution arrangements reliable. Other European countries had also received supplies, while it was now proposed to send dried milk. to help starving children -in the famine areas of India and Pakistan. r In conclusion, Mr. Thompson stressed the need of funds to cover freight and to maintain supplies and other necessary services. He felt sure that the citizens of Levin would make their customary generous response to the Corso appeal when it was held on Friday.
