Traffic Inspector W. W. S. Boyes, of Levin, is at present on leave and I liis duties are being undertaken by j inspector C. Davis, of Otaki. Sergeant W. Grainger, of the Levin Police, commenced his annual leave today. ' Acting Sergeant V. G. Arnold, of Palmerston North, is in charge at Levin during his absence.
Senate today confirmed the nomination of Mr. Louis A. Johnson [ as United States Secretary of NaI tional Defence, succeeding- Mr. { James Forrestal, says a Washington I cab^e. i Mr. J. Granger, who has been district agent of the Secial Security Department at Levin for the past two years, has received advice of his transfer on promotion Ho the position of registrar of " social | security and war pensions at Blenheim, and leaves next Wednesday ! to take up his new duties. Mr. Granger will -be greatly missed in rugby football circles, having taken i -r Kesn interest in the-Athletic Club, both as player and supperter, and in the game generally. He won senior representative honours in the past two seasons. Mrs. Granger will join her husband in the near future and her departure will be a loss to basketball as a referee. Mr. Granger's successor Levin will be Mr. L. Bunt, of New Ply'mouth.
