London's Shortage Of Hotel Accommodation
Received Tuesday, 8.50 p.m. LQNDON, Marc.lf 22. Although most of the hotels requisi tioned by the Government during thr. war have been handed back to theii owners there are 3000 fewer hotel rooms in London than prewar. The situation is causing anxiety in view of the efforts to increase the tourist trade and the faet that this vear's target foi the tourist industi'y is 10 poi' cent higher than last year. Increasing costs in the hotel business are also causing a disinclination on tlx part of sorae owners whose premisc are still requisitioned to apply fo: their release, and in some cases whei. they are released they are immediatel; offered to other Government depart ments. Seven large London hotols, in cluding the Great Central, the Victoria the Langham and the Carlton, have not been reopened since the war's end.
