Council Offers Site For Memorial Hall
Tlie LeVin Borough Council last night decided to make available as a Site for the proposed war memorial hall the area of borough land in Cambridge Street, known as the triangle, if .the 'Levin R.S.A, desires it. This decision arose out of a discussion on the future USC and layout of the triangle, but it was- not unanimous, the voting for aird against being flve to foun The discussion at times was heated. Cr. D. j. Gardiper opened the discussion by moving that the triangle be reserved for a municipal bus station, It was -seconded by Gr. W. T.elfoi'd. Raising a point of order, the Mayor, Mr. H, B. Burdekin, sai-d that the council could not discuss that" aspect Without first reseinding a previous resolution made in regard to the triangle. He then re- , auested permission of the council
to go into committee while he made a statement, and the council accordingly resolve'd itself mto committee. A motion was then moved by Cr. R. A. Frederikson that the triangle be made available as a site for the proposed war memorial hall if it was desired by the R.S.A. , After a period, Cr. j. Mifler moVed that the council resume in open meeting and this was seconde'd by 6r. D. J. Sv/eetzer and passed. The council would be Wise to consi'der the site for the erection of the memorial hall, said Cr. F D. Chainey. It would undoubtedly lend itself well, being in the vicinity of the gardens and memorial. I He could not see anything wrong in the site as a bUs centre, said Gr. A. J. H. Allen. He acbused the Mavor of taking a "poor attitude" over the matter of the lan'd and not reSpecting the views of the | other councillors. | The council was starting off on the wrong foot by offering the seC-

He had attended a meeting of the R.S.A. the other night and •felt sure that from 50 to 60 per ceht. of the R.S.A. members would, have voted for the retention of their own section. The council, he thought, was wasting its time in pursuing the matter. Mr. Burdekin: YoU should restrict your statement to your own opinion, Cr. Allen. We -are not concerned about the bus . park but whether or not tne land should be offered to the R.S.A. I Cr' C. Sherwood: I always support'* the R.S.A. ahd if it wants the land I say give it to them.
