AUCKLAND, March 21. Waterfront work is being resumed normally in Auckland today. This morning 1220 men were called for vai'ious ships. The penalties imposed on the watersiders last week for refusing to handle goods for and from eertain firms were automatically cancelled. ' Smiling watersiders went to the
waterfront bureau about 6.30 o'cloek .after a stop-work meeting ' called to consider- the futurei'' policy regarding support for the carpenters' dispute and be'gan lifting their dises. -Steps are to be taken immediately to cancel the order of the Waterfront Industry Authority deelaring the Northumberland. a preference ship. At the stop-work meeting the. discussious by the rtational executive of the Waterside Workers' Union in Wellington were reported" on by Mr. H. Barnes, the national. president, and Mr. T.1 Hill, the national secretary, and other national officers. Subsequentiy, carpenters' dispute, tne creating oi preference ships, ahd- the plaeing of our members on penalty. You have to remember we .are all members of one union." All" the available labour was engaged on the wharf today with two colliers loading and another discharging Auckland cargo. As a result of the stoppage 4000 tons of - coal was held at Greymouth for several days.
