INCREASE IN UNEMPLOYMENT
Received Monday, 9.10 p.m. WASHINGTON, Mareh 20. The postWar sellers' market has deelined in nearly every line of coxnnxodities except motor cars and metals, the Gomxnerce Department reported today. It said the turn towards a buyers ' market was aceompanied by a slight drop in the production of goods aua services in J'anua'ry and February from the alltime highs qf 1948. The Department estimated that 3,221,000 persons were unemployed in February which is fibout 1,250,000 xnore than at the be ginning of the year. a It was empha sised, however, that February 's xlnemployment was still' greater tliaji a year ' ago. * The Federal Reserve Board reported meantime that unemployment eontinued to increase in early March although not as fast as in Jannary and Feb ruary. Sumxxxing up, the Board said- ' ' The downward adjustment, although oceurrixxg in many lines, has not yet been of sufficieixt magnitude to permit a fuil appraisal of its signifieance. "
