Heavy Damage In Early Morning Fire

CHRISTCHURCH, March 22. Damage amounting to thousands of pounds was caused by a fire which gutted the sack repairing department and packing room in the store of Wood Bros., Ltd., flour millers, in Wise Street early this morning. The fire, which was diseovered at 3 a.m., swept through the upstairs portion of the large two-storeyed brick building, ruining about 5000 sacks of flour, poultry mash and pollard, destroying half the room and damaging the flour packing machinery before it was brought under control. The building and contents are covered by insurance.
