Good. times; for all events .were recorded at; the open" sports meeting held by the Shannon Aiilkteur Athletic and Cycling Club' last Saturday afternoon. . 1 r : . R. Best,'- in wihhing the'.first'heat of the half-nhle junior cycle, covered the tiist&nce in. 1 miri. secs., which .was tbe fastest time for .the various. heats and final. siL. Butbher (first heat) and* C,' Carlyqn (final) in the one mile , junior cycle both recorded 2 mins. 20 2/5 secs. Fastest time for the two mile Junior cycle was:by G. Geddens, with 4 mins. 55^ secs. M. Harper's half -mile open cycle event was completed in 1 min. 2,2/5 secs., while. G. Wakeley. completed the one mile" open in 2 mins,. 13 secs. , The two senior cycle events, the three and five hiile . events, were won by G. Wakeley in 7 mins. 10! 4/5.secS. and P. Murray in 12 mins. 45£- secs. In ithe athletic events the fastest time for the Iadies' 75 yards was recorded by .Miss Margaret Mac^ Lean, who won 'both the first heat . TwO hdafcs. of .the viadies' IOO yards were compiete'd in vlO' 2/5 secs;". R. Smijth won the- irien's 100 yards open in 9 4/5 secs. , Z: Grey,'Vnth 51 '2/5 secs. for the 440 yards, and ' Ji Mudge, with- 2 mins: 4'secS. for th^ 880 yards, were the fastest* times for those events. • In the early, part of the afternoori there wefe several spills> in - the •cycling events, . but fortunateiy none .were of a very serious nature. Jt appearefi that the fast surface pf the clay . track, accentuated by a strong breeke down the finishing straight and unfamiliarity with the -track on the par-t of some cyclists, were partly the cause of the troubie. The trophies competed for were on displa-y. during the afternoon and their high standard was the siibject of much favourable comment. They were presented to the winners" at the . conclusiqn of the! programme.
