Croquet Club Honours Life Member

The Otaki Groquet Club's green presented an animatedl appearance recently when memibers and friends met to celebrate the 87th birthday .of Mrs. E. Symonds,' a popular life member of the club. The party • was • organised by the club captain, Mrs. D. McCready, assisted by- the honorary secretary, Mrs. W. Percival, and other club members. The president, Mrs. A. Cook, Swearing a pretty floral frock with matching hat, received the guests, who included many past members of the club, and. friendis' from outside districts. The- guest of honour, in a black and' white ensemble, was presented! with a shoulder spray on arrival. An ad'journment was later made to the Otaki Bowling Club's new cluibhouse, where a delicious afternoon tea was partaken of. During an interval, the president offered heartiest birthday greetings to Mrs. Symondis and presented her with several gifts from fellow croquet members.; Mrs. Symonds suitably repliedl, after which games and competitions were resumed until late afternoon. The various competition winners were: — Golf and French croquet, Mrs. R. Yoqng; Aunt Sally, Miss C. Clarke; croquet in -the rain, Mrs. Percival; hitting the peg, Mrs. L. G. Gimblett. Sister N. Cook, a visitor whose birthday fell on the same day, was also the recipient of a shoulder spray. Mrs. Symonds is at present visitIng Wanganui on holiday.
