Variety Show Attracts Large Gathering
The Town Queen Committee of the Shannon and District's War Memorial Hall Carnival • benefited greatly as the. result of av variety show held in the Druids'-. Hall on Tuesday evening. The> "concert party from Palmerston North and local artists attract'e'd. almost a . capacity house, and all - expressed pleasure at the standard of.. enter-. tainment and. the excellent maniier' in which the function was pfesented. The first half of the programme opened with .a vocal number by Mr. F. O. 'Burtt and chorus. Mr. Bob Ross with his solos and guitar accompaniment were well received, as was Miss Caryl Reid with her elocution numbers. A sketeh fpllowed in which the prineipal parts' were played by Miss Nona Kingsbeer and Messrs. Jim Fiebig and; Colin Thompson. Mr. Norrie Dentonwas next to entertain with vocalsolos. The poi dance presented by the Opiki Maori' girls was a popular item, Mr. Vincent Belgrave rendered cornet solos. Mr. Jim Fiebig then entertained with a comedy number ahd Miss Elaine Airdfollowed with vocal solos. One of. the highlights of the programme; was a nbvelty -whistling item by? Miss Ngaire Butler and this com-i pleted the first half. Mrs. • 6. W. Barber and ensemble presented. "Sympathy'.' as . the opening number of fclie second half and this was followed hy a vocal duet !by Miss Kingsbeer and Mr. Thompson. Mr. Cyril Stevens; entertained Vith a vocal solo dn4 Tubby ' Allen delighted those present with an eCbentric tap daiice. Mr. Bob Ross again entertaihed" with vocal solos and his guitar. Further items were presented by Mr. Jim Fiebig,- Miss -Elaine Aird, Miss Reidi' and-Mr. Norrie Denton. The prograxnihe was brought to a successful coridlusion with the rendering of ^Operi -Road" by Mr, Burtt and chorus. ' .
