Schoolboys At Borough Council's Meeting

When the Otaki Borough Coun"cil sat on Wednesday night it had ag its guests some 40 boys from the eorrespondence sehools' camp at Otaki. These boys have been brought to Otaki for a month for a refresher cdurse. To most of the boys it was their first experience of a local body meeting, and to many their first sight of the Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore. The Mayor and town clerk, Mr. Alex. Wilson, outlined} the general procedu're followed byi borough councils, and the boysj evinced keen interest and numer-) ous questions \vere forthcoming incidental to local body work. Prior to taking their departure.l one of the boys, in a very able, speech, thanked the council andj expressed the pleasure it had given them in being allowed to "sit in" on the council. Mr. Atmore counselled them to "lend a hand in local body affairs" when the oppcrtunity arose later in life. "Not only the willing ones, but all, should take an interest in local body affairs and thereby help to make this great country of ours even greater." The boys then left, their "Good-i night, Your Worship" echoing afterj them. Councillors reflected that' the project of inviting students was ' a very good one, and would surely help in making them public spirited citizens. — 1 j-
