Notes From The Levin Croquet Lawns

This week saw the final match for the Sherwood Cup, played between members of the Levin and Foxton Croquet Clubs. The Levin lawns were the venue for the games-. The local club won by .50 points to 37. Individual results were as follows, with Levin players mentioned first 4n each instancb : — Singles: - Mrs. Dalzell beat Mrs. Walls 26— 11. Doubles: Mesdames' Boulton and Holdaway lost to Mesdames Bryant and Edwards 26 — 24. Levin has won the Sherwood Cup this season by the narrow margin of four points 'from the present holders, Otaki. Lett Brooches results are as follows: — 'Mesdames Fraser and Mudgway beat Mesdames Wenham and Dalzell 26 — 22; Mesdames Fraser and Dalzell beat Mesdames Palmer and Boulton 26 — 21. . Brown Button matches have resulted as foPows: — Mesdames Palmer and Powell won by default from Mesdames Mudgway and Bull; Mesdames Palmer an'd Powell lnst to Mesdaipes Mason and Holdaway. A series of competition afternoons have been held during the ■ season, resulting as follows: — A players: Mesdames Wenham and Boulton 1 (equal). B players: Mrs. Holdaway. On Wednesday six players from Paraparaumu visite'd Levin and a very pleasant day was spent in ideal weather. Prayers were mixed with one another and friendly games were played. This is the first visit of these players to Levin and they were loud in their praise of the lawns and the hospitality shown to them.
