Jet Fighters And Bombers For R.A.F.
LOXDON, Mareli 15. Britain's "new R.A.F. ' ' would soon be equipped with jet day and night lighters and jet bombers whieh wouia greatly surpass all present standard equipment, said the Minister for Air (Mr. Henderson) in the House of Cornmons. He announced: First, the strength- of
the jet fighter force would be doubled by about the middle of next year; seeondly, the front-line strength of the bomber striking force was already being increased* thirdly, replacements for Meteors and Vampires — the standard jet flght&rs in the service — are already being developed. They would be as mueh in advanee of the present niac hines as the latter were in advanee of the first jet fighters; fourthly, a twin jet bomber capable of 500 miles an hour — twiee the speed of the present standard Lincoln bomber — -is also being developed.
