IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION PROMISED

WELLINGTON, March 17. An immediate investigation by Cabinet Ministers, the Health Department and Public Works engineer into the pollution of the bajin at Foxton had been decided upon this morning by the Government, the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, told-a "Chronicle" reporter. • The residue from the flax mill had polluted! the water in what was now known as the ponding area to such an extent that there was a i stench from it which had1 caused
complaints and stopwork meetings at Foxton mills. Yesterday one of the Governmenit representatives on the directorate bf the flax mill, Mr. H. H. Podmore, who is Mayor of Foxton, had waitsd on the Minister of Finance and later seen Mr. Fraser himself. A meeting of Cabinet this morning decided that tomorrow morning the Minister of Industries and I Commerce, Mr. Nordmeyerj and the , Minister of Works, Mr. Semple, aceompanied by an offlcer of the Health Department and an engineer, should visit Foxton, inspeet the ared and decide what should be done to abate the nuisance and save the industry.
