Co-operation Increases Jobs And Wages

NEW YORK, March 15. Labour by cooperating with management had raised wages and increased employment in the United States, American union leaders said today in welcoming British steej. workers and plant exec'utives. Mr. Meyer Bernstein, speaking for the O.I.O., said: "We have found that hy helping the management to introduce new methods--some whereof have even resulted in men "being sacked — we have in the long run increased production, raised wages and added jobs far above the level they would have been had we opposed the changes." The visiting team is the first of 85 others representative of British industry to study American production methods in 1949. The visits have been arranged by the Anglo-Amen-can Council on Productivity which was estahlished under -the sponsorship of the Economic Cooperation Administration. Other speakers at today's welcome included the spokesmen for the A.F.L. and National Association of. Manufacturers.
