567 WATERSIDERS OUT OF WORK
AUCKLAND, March 16. After 115 watersiders who refused to work the preference ship Northumberland today were placed on penalty by ihe Waterfront Bureau no extra labour was called to work other ships iu port. An exception was made in the case of the coastal ship Tiri which afrived from Awanui with 400 boxes of buttey for the Auckland Farmers ; Freezing Company's cool stores as the ship is not refrigerated. But five unionists who were required to help unload the Tiri refused to work and they were also placed on penalty. Altogether a total of 567 unionists were out of work today through re fusing to load or discharge eargoes for firms on the union 's "black list." The food ship Fordsdale, which has been idle under the watersiders' ban on loading produce from cool stores for a week, was the only other overseas vessel not worked today. Two gangs of watersiders were discharging the Port Dune-
din and another gang was "loading meat on to the Australia Star.
