Australia May Buy New Whaling Ship
Received Thursday, 11.5 a.m. SYDNEY, March 17. A specially design'ed whaling factory ship of 27,000 tons now being built in Belfast has been offered to the Commonwealth Government, according to the Director of Fisheries, Mr. F. F. Anderson. He added that the prospects of starting a profitable whaling industry in Australia were excellent. The whaling fleet could operate on the New South Wales coast for one year in every three. Good reports had been received on the sighting of whales between Newcastle and the North Queensland coast. The question of buying the vessel will be considered by Cabinet.
