CHRISTCHURCH, "March 16. Although 30 women employeeo of three Christchurch rubber mills did not work today after being cailed out on strike by the Christchurch Rubber Workers' Union yesterday, it was learned that the managements were not veryhnuch concerned and that work was proceeding with little hindranee. Tlie dispute arose over a ciaim by the union for an extra ,2s 6cl per week for the women. Tne maia members of the union numbermg about 300, have undertaken lo make contributions towards the pay of the women. A spokesman for the management of the three mills affected,Dunlop (New Zealand), Ltd., Empire Rubber Mills and the Latex Rubber Company, Ltd., said this morning that the. employers had taken no steps towards settling ihe dispute. The Labour Department was taking an interest in the dispute and it had suggested 'that the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. A. B. Rigg, should attempt a settlement.
