Ladies' Section Of National Party Meets
Over 60 ladies attended .the annual meeting of the ladies' section of the Levin branch of the National Party, he'-d in St. Mary's Hall yesterday afternoon. The main object was to commence organisation for election year. Miss H. E. Bowen presided and, after welcoming those present, re,viewed the work accomplished in 1948. In particular Miss Bowen reeived to the large and fully representative convention of National party women at Waikanae last November, when the Levin delegation spoke so ably in support of restoration of capital punishment. Mr. W. Day-outlined the tasks ahead during" 1949 and laid particular emphaSis on the valuable and essential part the ladies play in winning elections. The election of officers r-esulted as follows: — Chairwoman: Mrs. Walter Bull; vice -chairwoman:
Miss H. E. Bowen; secretary: Mrs. S. H. Potter. A strong committee vas elected to implement plans. The divisional chairman, Mr." D. O. Whyte, of Wellington, ad'dressed the gathering at length on outstanding features of the. National Party philosophy and its plans. Mr. Theo Hills, the divisional secretary, dealt mainly with the political trend in New Zealand. Mrs. - Bull, after thanking the speakers for their interesting and helpful addresses pafd a striking
;tribute to the work and inspiration which at all times had charaeterised Miss Bowen's long terni as chairwoman of the Levin ladies' section. Afternoon tea was then dispensed.
