NANKING, Marcli 14. , After two months' intensive preparations, /the Communist, General Chen Yi, is all set for a major offensive to eliminate the remainipg Nationalist bridgeheads on the no'rth bank of the Yangtsp and begin a erossing attempt. * General Ghen Yi is said to have completed the deployinent of 300,000 men grouped into 19 columns along the stretch of the Yangtse between points southwest of Nanking to the northwest of S.hanghai. In addition, General^ Ghen Yi will have available, as reinf orcements, 10 columns of . General Liu Po Cheng's armies, and five columns of General Lin Piao 's Manehurian troops. Opposing the .Communists will "be a maximum : of 400,000 . .Nationalists guarding the defence line running from Shanghai to Iehang. , The def enders are well equipped but the strength of their determination to resist remains a question mark.
