AUCKLAND TRADES COUNCIL HOPES FOR EARLY SETTLEMENT
AUCKLAND, March 15. Confidence in the executive of the Auckland Trades Council in the handling of the present industrial dispute in: Auckland was expressed at a speciai: meeting of the council tonight. Delegates in the same resolution decided to place the matter in the hands of the Federation of Labour. ' The meeting was called by requisition from the delegates of 10' unions and ceritred its discussions around the tactics adopted by the provisionai. action committee whose members vigoiv ously defended its policy and mad^ charges of inactivity against the council 's executive. A resolution from the Waterside Workers' Union moved hy its Auckland vice-president (Mr. N. Donaldson) asked for a special meeting of the national council of the Federation of Labour to be convened immediately, but this was lost in favour of a confidence amendment proposed hy Mr. H. F. Callaugher, junr., of the Laundry Workers' Union. A member of the executive (Mr. D. Brophy) said it was hoped that as' a result of the present negotiations a settlement would he reached.
