Fern Birds
Three fern birds have been seefi near Invercargill. Since large areas of swamp land have beeri reclainied, these birds havebecome exceedingly scarce. They gained their name because of their tail feathers which resemble delicate feffi fronds, being somewhat similar to those of the lyre-bird but smallef. Naval Exercises Fofir Mosquito aircraft from NO 75 squadron, Ohakea, attacked four sliips of the New Zealand squadron 0 i exercisesi at sea 43' Hilles- south-' west of Cap'e Campbell this week, 1 Soectacfil'ar evasive action was made by two of the attacking air;craft as they straffed the bridge Of •the ,crui'ser Behona from 50 feet away.
