Railwaymen Protest At Sunday Trains

WELLINGTON, March 14. A protest against the running of additional Sunday trains and the reintroduction of race train specials "wliile the staif position is in such a critieal state as it is today," was made in a resolution carried at a meeting of the Wellington - branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants tonight. It was stated tliat members felt that, as the staffing situation had been in an acutely depleted state for a considerable time, the adding of a further burden was unwelcome. Long daily and weekly hours were worked under eonditions which gave little or no soeial life. It was either starting duty very early in the morning or late at night, with few Sunday rests. Leave was being held in abeyan.ce .and accumulating.
