No Arrangements In Sight For Negotiations
, Copyright)
Received Tuesday, 10.45 a.m. LONDON, March 14. Although tne Australian Foreign Minister, Dr. H. V. Evatt, has discussed the possibility of a Pacific Regional Defence Pact with the British Foreign Minister, Mr. Ernest Bevin, no.definite arrangements tO' negotiate such a pact are thought to be yet in sight, says Reuter's diptomatic correspondent. The unstable position in China is seen as the difficulty to such negotiations. Countries certain to be included in any first approach for membefship of a Pacific Pact are believed to be the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and India. By dual membership of the Atlantic and Pacific Pacts a link would be secured with the defence*. arrangements in Europe. This proposal for joint membership is similar to the plan by which Britain and i France might link a Mediterranean Pact to the Atlantic Pact by adhering to both groups.
