English-bred Mares Bring Good Prices
WELLINGTON, March 11.Top pi'iee of 2000 guineas at the autumn bloodstoek sale at Trentham today was r^alised by the English-bred mare Midsummer Moon. She was seeured by Mr. K. Austin, Kaiapoi, as , agent for #ah Australian buyer. Three \ other English-bred mares, Alary Green, ; Miss Blnestocking and Galden ivlagic, fetehed 1400 gns., 1700 gns, and 1450 gns. respe&tiyuly* They to.o were seeured by Air,. Austin as agent. Ihe ■ mares were offered on behalf of the Thoroughbred Export Company. Three English-bred colts were offered but were passpd in. Bidding stopped at 3500 gns. for a Big Game — Rusk eoit and 2750 - gns. was refused for Nebfis (Big Game — Far) and 1500 gns. for Dick Wittington (Nearco— Cheerful Anne). /During the day 27 lots were sold for an aggregate of 9585 gns. Of this amount English-bred mares cohtributed 6550 gns. Top' priee for a locally-bred horse was 480 gns. paid by Air. C. Chalmers, Taradale, for the brood unare Cnte Melody with a filly foal at foot by Massowa. She was offered on behalf of Mr. J. N. Alooney, New Plymotfth.
