Trained to Drop Atom Bombs

Received Friday, 7 p.ih. WASHINGTON, March 10. Air Force officials revealed tonight that the IJnited States Air Force has several long range bomber groups specially trained and equipped ior dropping atom bombs. The disclosure came from an announcement of routine overseas training schedules for the Superfortress groups which are based in England. G-eneral Hoyt S. Vandenberg, Chief of the Air Staff, said that two or three Superfortress bomber groups will be kept in England in a training sta/te for at least the remainder of 1949. The two groups now there will be replaced by three others during the next three months. The training period abroad is three months. Each group has thirty bombers, an Air Force spokesman said. The planes carried guns but no Ameriean bombs were stored ia England.
