Otaki Emerges Victor In Hunter Shield
The final night for. competition points for the Hunter Shield was held at Otaki on Wednesday, when .ocal runners and cyclists again scored a niajority of points: A ■high standard was maintained, and . those preseht witnessed a tnrilling nig'ht's sport, many of the finishes being really good, with most events very keeniy conteste'd. . Points were as follows: Levin 75, Otaki 114, Shannon 9, Foxton's lone representauive,'N H. Watson,falling, when well up in the mile. cycle event. Unfortunately there* were severalj spils, and many prominent ridefSi nad'their chances affected thereby.j Des. Smith was the flrst casualty,: and Connony, Levin's junior scratch rider, also fell early in ooth the events he competed in, M. Harper fell early in the senior mile, and Beere of Shannon, together with Watson, of Foxton, also fell in this event wheri the field bunched entering the' straight with two laps to go. Later a Shannon and &n Otaki rider fell with a- mile' "to go in the final event, the three mile open. cycle. Connolly arid Watson were given assistance by the St. John's men, and were none the worse for the mishaps.
