Otaki Young Farmers Hold Annual Meeting
An enthusiastic tone prevailed at the annual general rfleeting of the Otaki-Te Horo branch of the Young Farmers' Club, which took place at the Commercial Gardeners rooms on Tuesday night. The • retiring chairman, Mr. C. 1 Lutz, welcomed members and visitors among the latter .being Messrs. L). Kilsby, chairman of_ the Levin branch, and J. M.| Hopkins, district secretary In submitting his report, c Mr. Lutz advised that although the activities of the club had been " fairly resricted, progress had been maintained by increased membership. Much beneflt had been derived from the assistance of the Veterinary surgeon, Mr. Low, who had been appointed to the district during the year-, while Mr. Hopkins had rendered assistance also by means of film displays, which had been much appreciated. Two tdances had been held, both proving highly successful, the proceeds of one, approximately £27, having been applied to the farmers queen fund. Members had assisted with judging at school calf club parades, and three members had gone to Gisborne at the time of the flood relief appeal. Mr. Lutz congratulated the club's entrant in the Australian Y.F.C. leadership contest on the progress attained to date, and thanked fellow officers and members for their help and co-operation during his term of . office. He also made reference to the loss sustained by the club in the passing during the year of two valuable supporters, Messrs. C. C. : Holmes and H. Nicolson, the former for many years acting as senior advisory member arid the latter as honorary auditor. Mr. E. Dittmer, district chairman, thanked Mr. Lutz for . his interest and support during his term of office. The election of officers for the en'suing term resulted as follows: • — .Chairman : Mr. T. Fogden; secretary Mr. L. Russell; treasurer: Mr. J Moffatt; senior advisory member: Mr. V. J. Cottle; advisory members: Messrs. E. T. Bartosh i and A. L. MacDonald; vice-cnair-man: Mr. R. Bartosh; committee: Messrs. E. Dittmer, T. Fuller and F. Rowe; delegates to district committee: Messrs. Fogden, Dittmer • and V. Cottle; auditor: Mr. R. Bills. „ _ The district secretary, Mr. J. M. Hopkins, congratulated the club 1 on the success-of the meeting and suggested that the secretary forward reports for publication in the 1 Journal of Agriculture. He further 1 advised that throughout the coming year lecturers would be avail- ■ able from Massey College, Welling- ' ton, Wallaceville arid other places and recommended that the club take full advantage of the means placed before it to further the interest and ; practical knowledge gained from such lecturers. Mr. .. Hopkins .added that he would like to see the club enter a strong representation for the field day to take place at Leviri on Thursday of nexb week, when a valuable trophy would be competed for ,and also for the fo'otball shield.
