N.Z. Alliance Pleased With Poll Result

WELLINGTON, March 10. "It is noticeable that the country vote is just as emphatically favourable to 6 p.m. cmsing as the vote in the *cities and towns,'' said Mr. H. W. Miiner, General Superintendent of the New Zealand Alliance, commenting today on the licensing poll. "The 53 per cent Maori vote in the King Country against the issuing of licences is satisfactory, and from my visit there and my contacts with the people last week, I feei confident that had the existence of clubs not been at stake the Pakeha vote would have been very much the sarne as that of the Maori. "A remarkable feature of the voting in the King Country and in Ashburton and Geraldine is the clear and strong preference the public has shown for Trust control. This indicates an interesting trend in public opinion." Speaking of the result of the poll generaliy, Mr. Miiner said "We thought the public would be behind us but never expected a 75 per cent maj ority ."
