Pacific Scientists Enjoyed Levin Visit
Two letters received by the president of the Levin Native Fiora Club, Mr. I. D. Parsons, leave little doubt that the 15 overseas scientists who recently spent a day in Levin thoroughly enjoyed their visit. The party was proceeding to Wellington, after attending the Seventh Pacific Science Congress, and broke its journey at Levin to take part in an outing in the Tararua foothills under the auspices of the club. The assistant director of the Auckland Institute and Museurn, Mr. A. W. B. Powell, who arranged the expedition, writes: "I wish tc thank you ,Mrs. Parsons and all the members of your club for the wonderful picnic you so ably arranged for my science congress parly. It was' undoubtedly the highlight of jur tour, and everywhere I went during the Christchurch session the Levin day .was a topic of conversation. Our 'Zoology B' trip in fact became the tandard by which all* the other tours were judged. "By now most of the delegates have left New Zealand," continued Mr. Powell, "and each in turn asked me to express to you and your ■ organisation their great appreciation for a truly enjoyable rnd instructive day." He wished to say how much he had enjoyed tlie splendid hospitality accorded the party, said Dr. D. J. PletSch, of the economic and scientific section of the Supreme Command of Allied Powers in Japan, in his letter to Mr. Parsons. "Ihe bush and the bugs were nice, but best of all was your iriendiiness to a group of ■ strange (maybe even pecu.iar) travellers. The food assembled by your lady folk was quite overwhelming" l
