Request For Sealing Outside Te Horo Plunket Rooms

An app'iosticn for the sealing of an area of ground outside' the Plunket Rooms, Te Horo, which was received at yesteraay's meeting of the Horowhenua County Council, drew comment from Cr. R. W. Jenkins on the council's failure over a period of time to give the matter any attention. "I have repeatedly brought this matter before the council and nothing has been done. I don't feel too happy about it," he said. . The application was made by the secretary of the Te Horo branch of the organisation, Mrs. M. Bennett, who stated that applicaticn had been made some four years ago and she understood that the council had made arrangements with the Main Highways' Board to have the work carried out. So far nothing had been done and the weeds were beginning to ■rot the building, despite the efforts of the local committee to keep them down. Speaking to the application, Cr. Jenkins said that other requests of a similar nature which had been piade recently had been given attention. It would not take much to do the work. The same applied to the attention which was needed at the Te Horo Hall. "I notice that the engineer reports that a parking place has besn put in at the Anghcan Church, and that was only a recent application," he commented; The position with regard to the Plunket rooms was that they were on a " main highway, commented the chairman, ? Mr. A. M. Colquhoun, and he did not know who had the authority to d'o the work. Cr. Jenkins replied that he had seen the board and had reported to the council that they only to"k responsibi ity for work three feet from the bitumen. • - It was decided to take the mat'er up with the board' again in an endeavour to have the work dpne.
