WORK TO STOP ON FOOD SHIPS
AUCKLAND, Jdarch 8. The latest development in. the industrial dispute tonight is that no produce will be loaded touiorrov into two food ships in port that have not yet taken their full cargoes for the United Kingdoin. This follows the boycott imposed by watersiders, drivers and railwav workers against the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company because it would not undertake to emplo.v dismissed carpenters. All butter and cheese exported from Auckland is handled by the company. The loading: of produce from the company 's eool stores eeased at the port at 5 o'clock this afternoon but the ban on deliveries to the stores will not be euforced until Thursday. Work by watersiders on the steamer | Northumberland has ceased. One hun-
dred watersiders declined' to work on her today. This follows the dismissal yesterday of 15 men who refused to unload from No. 6 hatch soda aish for the Penrose Glas'sware Company. The Port Comniittee suggested that all cargo from the hatch be discharged and the soda ash isolated in the wharf shed. The- men did not aecpet the1 proposal. The Waterfront Industry Commission in Auckland is discussing the situation. Drivers' Union officials declined to eomment today on the Master Carriers' Association warning that unless the union lif ts o the boycott on certain firms by 8 o'clock tomorrow morning the drivers will be given a week's notice of dismissal'. The executive will meet'tonight or tomorrow night. The president of.the Master Carriers' Association (Mr. H. 0. England) said today that the association appreciated thd seriousness of the step. ' ' ' Manv large organisations may experience losses running into thousands of pounds. Their entire operations, including manu- j facturing and processing, may be closed down. A serious loss may also be i suffered by snialler members." The niember of the association felt that tliey I were in the dispute on ' the side of Drganised, sane labour.
