February A Wet Month

In common with many other parts of the North Island, a fair amount of rain fell in Otaki during February, the total for the, month being four inches. Rain 1 fell on 12 days with the highestj fall of 2.18 inches on the 16th; j some local flooding followed this downpour. There were six wet days in February, 1948, when thei total fall was 1.70 inches. i As a result of the greater rainfall this year the countryside derived considerable benefit, which was reflected in an added growth of grass, although the wet condi-, tions meant later crops. The month was generally cool, and Mr. F. H. Crilchley, of Otaki Beach, further reports that an earthquake shock occurred at 5.30 a.m. on the 10th.
