Champion Cyclist To Visit Shannon

■■ Tomorrow evening Allen Stonex mll be appearing at the Shannon Domain m invitation events.-to be conducted by the local Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. Stonex was the New Zealand representative a,t the world cycling .championships held in Holland last year. He was the New Zealand spnnt champion in 1946 and agaim m 1948, and is the holder of the New Zealand record for the unpaced kilometer. The Shannon club has been fortunate indeed in securing an appearance of this popular Auckland rider, who, in addition to his outstanding appearances on the track, is the holder of several road racing records. Tuesday evening's meeting will be the local club's final one for this season, and it is hoped to have visiting ri'ders from Palmerston North and other towns to compete in the invitation events. This fixture should draw a record gathering at the domain. In view of the fact that the evenings are drawing in, the meeting will commence- at 6 p.m. with the children's events, and the main programme will begin at 6.15 p.m. '
