Personal Mr. L. Andrew and Mr. E. Peach are at present spending a holiday in the South Island. The friends of Mrs. C. Parr, of Thompson Street, who is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital, will be pleased to hear that she is progressing favourably following her recent operation. The manager of the Shannon dairy factory, Mr. J. Alexander, together with Mrs. Alexander, represented the factory at the jubilee picnic of the Levin Dairy Company on Saturday. Mr. Alexander was a member of the tug-o-war team which won the competition after four pulls. He is now the proud owner of a medal, Pony Club Successes • The instructors, of the Moutoa Pony Club have every reason to be proud of their pupils' performances at the recent sports fixture at Shannon. Pony club members secured 14 first placings, 11 seconds and eight thirds, which gives proof of the excellent training in both horsemanship and care and attention of their mounts which the club gives to its members. Carnival Opens The carnival to raise funds for the erection of the Shannon and district's war memoriai hall got away to a good start on Thursday evening, when a concert was held in the Druids' Hall. The function, which was arranged by the two committees, was well attended by the public. Enjoyable items were rendered by local artists. During the evening, the chairman of the War Memoriai Hall Committee, Mr. R. R. Lind, outlined the objects and called upon the Mayor, Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald, to introduce Miss Margaret MacLean (town) and Miss Joyce Woodmass (country), the two carnival candidates. Mr. W. C. Higgie, of the town committee, and Mr. J. D.
