Better Food Prospects in Britain

Received Snnday, 7 p.m. LONDON, March 5. Food prospects for the coming year were good but he coukl not make any proinises, said the Minister of Food Mr. Strachey, when addressing a Manchester meeting today. He said: "I believe that. slowly but surelv things will get better. We have had to face some heartbreaking set backs during the past three years but I don't believe we will have any very bad ones this year." He said Britain could expec-t a modest contribution to her food supplies in the seeond half of 1949, from the peanuts seheme in East Africa and the pig-feeding stuff being grown in Queensland. Britain would not follow the example of France and Belgium and abolish food rationing.
