Snowdon, of Iti Street, has been visiting Christchurch for the wedding of his niece. i Mesdames M. Bracey and .H. Jackson, of Otaki, who have been on a visit to Napier, nave returned to Otaki. ' . [ I Mrs. E. Symonds, of Riverbank Road, Otaki, has left for a visit to her daughter, Mrs. W. Whitcombe, Gonville, Wanganui. Sir Peter Buck, K.C.M.G., D.S.O.,' wili arrive in Otaki at 10 a.m. on,. Tuesday, according to advice re-| ceived by Rev. P. Temuera. After' visiting the Maori Church he will! be welcomed at the Raukawa marae. Anybody interested is.invited to attend.
Local Athlete Prominent I. Mu'dge, of Otaki, after winnmg a heat of the one mile, was third in the final, and filled a similar position in the two miie event°at the championship events held at New Plymouth on Friday and Saturday. New Transformer Considerable power line activity has been going . on in and around Convent Road and Te Rauparaha Street for some time past. The Horowhenua Power Board is erecting a new transformer at the top end of Convent Road to spread the load which formerly .passed through the town. Decoration Received At a State investiture held at Government House -on Friday, Major John Vincent, D.C.M., M.M., was presented with the M.B.E. by the Governor-General. Major Vincent recently took up residence at Otaki Railway: Corporal Maurice Chaney was 'presented with the Military Medal and Flight-Lieu-tenant Thomas Empson with the D.F.C. Travel Club Discussed A deputation from the Travel Club, Wellington, visited Otaki one evening last week and invited members of the Otaki Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club to form a branch at Otaki. Many very interesting features were outlined and favourably received. Further discussions are to follow at a later date, School Crioket , An interesting cricket match was played between the Otaki State and Convent Schools on Friday. State proved too good scoring 102 runs for six wickets declared to Convent's 46 runs. Top scorer for State was R. Edwards with 26, while Knox, Collis and Gordon notehed 10 ruiis each, the latter not out. For Convent, Henry (11) and Nicholls (10) were responsible for half the total, McLeod 2 (not out) being the retiring batsman. Majestic Pine Tree To Go? For many years past a large pine tree opposite the Otaki Plunket Rooms has caused no small 1 amount of inconvenience to residents in the vicinity. Persistent efforts have been made to have it removed, but the owners of the. property it is situated on have been unsympathetic. Now the Horowhenua Power Board has come to the rescue of the agitators, and huge limbs and branches have been sever.ed from the tree, .with the possibility of its complete cutting down being seriously considered. Residents and plunket mothers wPl be pleased at the turn of events.
