SOVIET AMBASSADOR DEMANDS RELEASE OF RUSSIAN

Received Sunday, 8 p.m, WASHINGTON, March 5. The Soviet Ambassador, Mr. Alexander Panyushkin, today demandfid thal the United States Government order the release of Valentine Gubitchev. Both Gubitchev and Miss Coplon weio brought before the Federal Court in New York today. Judge Simon Rit'kind set bail of 100,000 dollars for Gubitchev and 20,000 dollars for Miss Coplon. ' ^ Mr. Panyushkin 's demand for Gubi-t-chev's release was made to the Under Secretary of State, Mr. James Webb, who repiied that the State Department was looking into the case in consultation with the Justice Department and United Nations' Secretariat. Both Gubitchev and Miss Coplon are liable to a 10,000 dollars line and five years' iniprisonment 'or both- if found guilty.
