Residents of Poroutawhao have .decided on a utilitarian form of iWar memorial. A porch is to be jadded to the settlers' hall to per-* petuate the memory of the young jmen from that district who paid ithe supreme sacrifice during the war. The first step in the campaign to raise funds will take place on Saturday next, when the Poroutawhao Sports Club wilj eonduct a gala sports meeting. It will be the first the club has organised and it is hoped to make the function a,n annpal one. The programme arranged is a very attractiye one, and includes horse events, Highland dancing, a car driving competition, car and trailer reversing contest an'd a number of novelty events.' Mr. W. Winiata's property, mid-way between Foxton and Levin, where the meeting is to be held, is ideally appointed for the purpose and, given favourable weather, there Will undoubtedjy be a.large attend--ance. The first evdnt is at 19 a.m.
