Burma Not Rejoining British Commonwealth
Received Friday, 9.20 a.m. RANGOON, March 3. It is officially stated that the Burmese Government is not contemplating a re-entry into the British Commonwealth. The statement said that Burma's present troubles would not be overcome by such a move. An official spokesman, commenting on the New Dedii statement of the Australian Minister of External Affairs, Dr. H. V. Evatt, that Burma would probably sooner or later rejoin the Commonwealth, said that the Burmese would not welcome such a suggestion. He said that their "intense nationalism" would not permit such a step. Burma desired' to maintain cordial relations with Britain, said the spokesman, and he assured Commonwealth countries of Burma's fullest co-operation in matters of mutual interest.
